Happy New Year!
To kick off the year 2024, let’s embark on captivating journeys with our dedicated contributors. Carl guides us to the very end point of the Philippines, Sarangani Bay, offering a glimpse into its mesmerising marine biodiversity. Alex leads us to the Thresher Shark hotspot, Malapascua, while Javier takes us on a journey to Cabo de Palos in Spain, where the enchanting small fauna awaits contemplation.
As we indulge in the breathtaking visuals and compelling narratives from our talented contributors, let’s not overlook the pressing environmental issues. Thanks to Nirupam, the Editor-in-Chief of the Underwater Photography Guide, we’ve become acutely aware of the alarming lionfish invasion in the Mediterranean.
While the long-term impact of climate change is yet to unfold, it is imperative that we, as humans, take proactive measures to address these issues and coexist harmoniously with Mother Nature. Let this year be a reminder of our responsibility to safeguard the environment for future generations.

COVER STORY
The mask-like face of an Atlantic stargazer appears menacingly through the sandy floor in the coastal shallows of the Mediterranean, off western Croatia. This ambush predator is not rare, but its coastal sandy-bottom habitat is under pressure from erosion, land run-off, human waste and reckless fishing. The stargazer is presented as a mask, lit through a curtain of turquoise water, his portrait portrays a mood of lurking horror.
