DRT SHOW Shanghai has just ended but the pace doesn’t stop there. The DRT SHOW, after a four-year wait, is coming to Manila from 18-20 August and EZDIVE can’t wait to meet and talk to our Filipino readers about the event!
This issue also happens to be the show directory for DRT SHOW Philippines 2023, so we exclusively invited Sylvia Wu to share her story of falling in love with the island of El Nido and her determination to devote herself to sea turtle conservation there. Noticing that the locals living on El Nido would eat and sell sea turtle eggs, she wanted to improve the fate of sea turtles and, after a lot of trial and error and learning, she ended up setting up the largest turtle hatchery centre in Palawan, Philippines!
Next, follow Timo as he explores the Canary Islands, where you can experience the Mediterranean, the Atlantic and the tropics all at the same time and, if you want to see huge sea creatures, put La Ventana on your wish list! This is where Vanessa Mignon saw the killer whale of her dreams. Alternatively, visit the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia with Renata Romeo and Ahmed Gomaa who explored the lesser-known potential of the Farasan Banks!
As an accomplished diver, Kate Jonker shares her shark-photography skills, echoing the spectacular cover photo by Steve Woods.
What are you waiting for? Turn the pages and let’s enjoy the summer together!

COVER STORY
Blue Sharks have one of the largest distributions of all the shark species and, although they are found in nearly all waters around the globe, painfully little is known about their lifecycles or reproduction. Baja is one of the best places to study these animals due to the incredibly deep water that comes so close to the Baja California Sur peninsula. Unfortunately, we generally only see subadults as the larger animals have already been killed, caught as trophy fish or by-catch. Working with these animals is such an honour as they are so threatened as a species. Blue Sharks are also one of the most investigative shark species. Shaped like a long iridescent blue ribbon they slip through the water and will investigate anything, especially strobes and camera housings.
