Time flies, half of 2024 has already passed. I wonder if you have accumulated many memories with the ocean this year? Let’s embrace the ocean together in the second half of the year!

This issue’s cover features a pair of Japanese Dragonet photographed by Keigo Kawamura. Inside the magazine, you’ll find his detailed introduction to this mysterious species from the Izu Peninsula in Japan. We also feature Yasuko Ozeki, who broke a new Guinness World Record for ice free diving, sharing her thrilling journey.

This issue of EZDIVE takes you across the world, diving into the mysterious and beautiful underwater world, exploring challenging and unknown waters, and enjoying leisure and holiday vibes. Monique shares the magnificent kelp forests of False Bay in Cape Town, South Africa; Ali guides us through the rich ecosystem of Zihuatanejo, Mexico; and Richard introduces the classic Maldives, where both novice and experienced divers can have a fulfilling experience.
Talented underwater photographer Kate provides readers with a detailed guide to wide-angle lighting techniques underwater. Vanessa explains the importance and application of photography in research and conservation, hoping that every precious photo of marine life will raise awareness about environmental conservation.

COVER STORY

The Japanese Dragonet inhabits the temperate regions of Japan at depths of 1 to 10 metres and spawns from late May to early July. About an hour before sunset, males begin courting the females within their territory. Upon gaining the female’s consent, the pair starts to ascend together. The female begins to lay eggs around 50 cm above the seabed, while the male releases sperm, resulting in the formation of fertilised eggs. This behaviour is repeated until sunset.
