COVER STORY

This photo was taken some time in April 2015 off Semporna, Sabah. Malaysia. Communities of Bajau Laut or Sea Gypsies have been living a nomadic life here for generations. They built their houses on stilt huts built atop coral reefs and living off catches from the ocean. They are exceptional free divers and hunters. Their connections to the ocean are so strong that they are reported to feel ‘land sick’ whenever they stepped on solid ground. They are truly the children of the ocean.
